What's In bloom now?

A better question is what's not in bloom!

It's April 5th and Weidner's is hopping. Plants coming out of the greenhouse everyday. Here are some ideas to help make gardening fun and rewarding.

In bloom and ready to add Spring color to your House and garden right now:

You'll find lots of big and small custom combination baskets and containers as we get ready for the 2nd Annual Parade of Baskets coming on April 28th & 29th. You can buy them now of course and get in ahead of the crowd.

Hydrangeas. We staggered the crops of hydrangeas so that we have perfect plants for everyday and for those special days like Mother's Day. Evelyn says "Temporarily in your home, permanently in your garden." hydrangea arrangement

Idea: Put your Hydrangea into a glazed pot or basket (you can reuse it over and over) and put a plastic saucer in the bottom so these heavy drinkers have an extra water supply.

The fuchsias are selling so fast you won't see a lot of blooms but they are loaded with buds and we have the photos so you can see what they will look like! We also have 4" (hanging type), 6" (uprights), and baskets (both 10" and wood baskets.) The trees and tubs are just starting to trickle out but soon there will be a torrent. Idea: make your own combination baskets and containers by adding some of our 4" component plants. In a few months you'll have a big beautiful combination for a very low cost.

Begonias! The hanging tuberous begonias (upright variety) are coming out but as fast as they come out of the greenhouse they go out the door. The 4" are as close to perfect as you can get. Illumination (hanging variety) tuberous begonias are almost ready. Maybe next week. However, Encanto (one of the crosses between tuberous and begonia boliviensis) are beautiful and bountiful. These begonias have a profusion of eye popping orange flowers and will take more heat (still need shade) than the tuberous variety. Still to come are the Million Kisses crosses. Stay tuned. And of course, Dragon Wings, the do everything begonias are perfect. Don't forget Richmondensis, wonderful for shade or sun, a sturdy and bright addition to your garden.

Don't forget impatiens! We have 4" singles, doubles,(click here if you want to know what single and double means) and New Guinea varieties. The single baskets (8") are just the right size to go into your container or garden. They'll double in size over the next few months. No doubles or New Guinea baskets yet.

Sun, sun, sun . . . here it comes. (Remember the Beatles song?) We have lots of color for your sunny spots; 10" and 12 " baskets and of course 4" pots. Russelia, baccopa, petunia, mecardonia, lobelia, it goes on and on. Just like last year, you can mix and match any 5 of the 4" for only $10! What a deal!

The mandevilla "Crimson Parasol" are here: 6", 10", and trellised. Dipladenia 8" limited number of white and maybe some red have just arrived.

Geranium are back and you can't beat their color and non fussiness. They just keep on blooming, and blooming, and blooming.

Bromeliads, anthuriums, and spathifilum for indoors or on your patio can be found in our indoor/patio area.

Green Moss Purses and Bowls. We showed these off last month. We're doing it again because they are so popular and make such an easy gift. The prices for planted bowls and purses start at just under $10 and most of the planted purses cost about $20. Of course we have bigger and more impressive moss custom creations too. Take a look at some of the gift combinations available.

Cyclamen are great cool season shade flowers. Last year was so mild we enjoyed them all summer long. Who knows this year! Best for shady flower beds, best for patio tables, best for container combinations. Not best in the house where it is too warm for the cool loving cyclamen.cyclmen on the bench
