This page is to let you see many of the fuchsia varieties that Weidners Gardens grows. The following information may help you as you see the pictures.
These pictures are a work in progress, more photos coming.
Understanding our 'Codes' or how we classify
fuchsias.
Bloom Times
All year=Everblooming in mild climates. Here in
Southern California fuchsias that are day length neutral will stay in bloom all
year. Hours of light along with temperature affect when fuchsias bloom.
Early Bloomer=These
fuchsias come in bloom for us in Southern California usually by Mid-March into
early April.
Mid-Season=Mid April into
May is when almost all of your fuchsias are in bloom. A few late bloomers might
still be waiting.
Growth Habit
Basket/Trailer= A
fuchsia that is a true trailer and is best in a basket or coming over the edge
of a planter.
Basket- Makes a good basket and can sometimes be trained other
forms.
Semi-Basket=This class of
fuchsia will basket but is stiff enough to make a short upright.
Petite Upright=Uprights that will stay compact and are good for smaller pots
and containers. Can make a basket but they will never trail. The Shadow
Dancer's are in this group. Many of these are everblooming.
Upright=Fuchsias that are
truly upright growers and would not ever make a trailer.
There are always exceptions and many semi basket
types also make good tree fuchsias if trained right. Voodoo is a great example
of breaking all the rules. Big double flowers., it makes a great basket but can
also be a tree or become an upright. Usually the best uprights are those with
smaller blooms. Large double flowers can bend down the branches of many
uprights.
